Tiankeng, also known as "Heavenly Pit", is a very unique geological formation of karst caves throughout southwestern China. Leye County with adjacent Fengshan County of Baise City, located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Province and about 200 miles away from the famous tourist city Guilin, has the world-famous karst landscapes with magnificent and broad Tiankeng, among which 26 heavenly pits in Dashiwei Tiankeng are generally viewed as the top spot in the world for it's concentration, vastness and uniqueness. These karst caves also boasts a large collection of rare animals, plants that offer invaluable resources for scientific research and exploration. In the same region, Luomei Lotus Flower Cave has the largest quantity of cave lotus flower discs, the most varied shapes and the largest size in the world. In April 2002, the International Caves Association officially named Leye as the international base of scientific research and exploration for karsts and caves.

Leye County enjoys endless breathtaking beautiful scenery, such as Buliu River on which the tallest natural karst stone arch bridge is situated, Bailang Karst And Forest Grand Canyon which is known for its 200 meter long underground river, and the adjacent Huangjing Tiankeng National Forest Park.

The same region also is well known for its culture heritage and preservation. 

Muli Village, 17 miles away from the Leye Town, is a natural habitat for Han ethnic people, and the ONLY known place in China with matriarchal social system, in which women have more power within the family and society than men. 

"Zhuang" Ethnic Group, living on the banks of Buliu River, still use the traditional way of fabric making technology to make their own clothing, bed sheet, etc. The fabric made here is known for their vivid color and traditional value.

In a word, Leye County is such a tourist attraction that integrates adventure, ecology, exploration, sightseeing, folk custom and culture experience as a whole. But up to now, it has been a undiscovered gem for western tourists. There have been several caving expeditions organized by local research agencies and international karst organizations, but so far these tiankeng caves remain unexplored by most of the regular western cavers and adventurers.
